AI chatbot on a business website answering customer questions, Avikosh Digital

The problem. One vendor offers a website chatbot for a few hundred rupees a month. Another quotes several lakh. Both are called AI chatbots. The difference lies in what the bot knows, what it connects to and whether it produces enquiries or simply answers questions badly.

What an AI chatbot actually does

A modern AI chatbot uses a language model to understand questions in natural language and answer from your business information: services, pricing, locations, policies and FAQs. Better builds also qualify visitors, collect contact details, book appointments, hand over to a person and send leads to your CRM or WhatsApp.

The three cost components

1. Build

Setting up the knowledge base, writing the bot’s instructions and guardrails, designing conversation flows, connecting forms or CRM, testing and launching. This is where quality is decided.

2. Monthly running

Hosting, monitoring, updating the knowledge base as your offers change, reviewing conversations and improving answers.

3. AI usage

Model usage fees based on the number and length of conversations. For most small and mid-sized websites this is modest, but it grows with traffic.

What the market charges in India

Template chatbot tools can be very cheap but offer limited customisation and weak lead handling. Custom AI chatbots connected to a CRM and business processes commonly run from around one lakh to four lakh rupees for larger builds, with ongoing monthly fees. Simpler, well-built business chatbots cost considerably less.

At Avikosh, our AI chatbot is priced at ₹25,000 to build plus ₹5,000 a month to run, with any third-party tool subscriptions billed separately. All fees are exclusive of GST.

What drives the price up

  • Integrations with CRM, booking systems, inventories or internal databases.
  • Multiple languages, including Hindi and Hinglish handling.
  • Complex qualification logic or many service lines.
  • Compliance requirements in regulated industries.
  • Deployment on several channels such as website, WhatsApp and Instagram.

When a chatbot pays back

A chatbot is worth it when your website gets steady traffic, visitors ask repeated questions, enquiries arrive outside office hours, or your team spends significant time answering basic queries. It pays back through more captured leads, faster response and fewer hours spent on routine questions.

It is not worth it on a site with very little traffic, or when the real problem is that nobody follows up on existing enquiries. Fix follow-up first, as covered in the follow-up window decides your conversion rate.

What to ask before buying

  • Can I see and edit what the bot knows?
  • What happens when it does not know the answer?
  • Where do leads go, and how quickly does my team see them?
  • Who reviews conversations and improves the bot?
  • How is my data and my customers’ data handled?

Common questions

Can a chatbot replace my customer support team?

It can handle routine questions and route the rest. People are still needed for complex, sensitive and high-value conversations. See AI customer support: what it saves and what it costs.

Is a WhatsApp chatbot better than a website chatbot?

Different jobs. Many businesses benefit from both. Read WhatsApp chatbot cost for comparison.

How long does it take to build?

A well-scoped business chatbot typically takes one to three weeks, depending on integrations.

The short version

Chatbot cost is build, monthly running and AI usage. Price rises with integrations, languages and complexity. It pays back when traffic and repeated questions are real and follow-up is already working. Ask us whether a chatbot makes sense for your site.
